Mode of action – Biotechnological plant protection
Blossom Protect™ and Botector® are highly effective biotechnological plant protection products. They are highly efficient microorganism (Aureobasidium pullulans) in competition with Botrytis cinerea colonizing a microscratch on the plant surface. Botector® contains highly efficient microorganisms which block e.g. the grey mold pathogen, Botrytis cinerea, from colonizing infection sites on the berry surface. The biotechnological product works through natural competition for space and nutrients between pathogens and antagonists. As Botector® acts competitively and does not attack the metabolism of pathogens there is no risk of resistance even with frequent applications.
- Microscratches on the plant’s surface (fruit or berry) or blossoms provide a natural entry point for pathogens like e.g. grey mould (Botrytis cinerea). These open points are colonized immediately after applying the highly effective microorganisms (Aureobasidum pullulans). (Fig. 1)
- The rapid proliferation of Aureobasidum pullulans consumes available nutrients. (Fig. 2)
- The microscratch is sealed by Aureobasidium pullulans, which acts as a natural shield and prevents the pathogen from infecting the plant.(Fig. 3)
